Held at the Hotel Russell, Russell Square London on
4th and 5th February 2010 the event was attended by 208 delegates across
the two days. Among the Conference highlights:

- What does radical surgery for retroperitoneal
sarcoma really mean ? Differing views but agreement that the first
surgery is the crucial intervention.

- An important review of re-excision following
inappropriate surgery wins the BSG Proferred Paper Award.

- A stimulating Invitation Lecture by Dr Murray
Brennan gave a deep insight into 40 years of experience treating
sarcoma. His candid approach looked at the challenges, old and new
ideas, considered the progress made in research, and was tempered by
the frustrations as well as the advances in which he has played a key
role.

- A review of IGF-1R looked at recent studies and
discussed the future of this developing group of new agents.

- The comparative benefits of IMRT versus
standard radiotherapy in treating extremity sarcoma adjuvant to
surgery were reported.

- Delegates were able to preview the forthcoming
UK launch of mifamurtide (Mepact)

- The NCIN work on integrating sarcoma cancer
registry, hospital and national data presented a challenge to
delegates

- Delegates were able to preview UK Guidelines
for the Treatment of Soft Tissue Sarcoma - publication Spring 2010
